Additional Testing
You’re one step closer to saving a life
You could be a patient’s best option
If you're requested for additional testing by a patient's doctor, it means you might be the best match. Get answers to any questions you have by calling your specialist.
What happens during additional testing
Further testing provides the doctor with more information to determine if you're the patient's best hope for a cure.
45-minute call with your specialist
We'll perform a health screening, confirm your contact information and schedule a blood draw. We'll also answer any questions and discuss any concerns you have.
Provide a blood sample
A blood sample is needed to further test your HLA markers and determine if you're the best match. It's also used to test for infectious diseases such as HIV and hepatitis to help protect the patient's health. These tests, commonly called IDM testing, will be repeated if you're called to donate.
How long does this stage take?
The patient's doctor has up to 60 days to review your test results and decide if you're the best match for the patient.
What happens next
Your specialist will keep you informed. You may be asked to donate, or you may be released from this patient's search and remain on the registry for a future match.
